100% sustainable Easter Catalan Traditions

Painted eggs

In our last post we shared with you the tradition of the chocolate sculptures (mones) that we have in Catalonia. There is another tradition related to this is which is the painting of the eggs.
Many years ago, when the christians did abstinence during Easter they couldn't eat eggs but hens didn't stop laying them so they kept them and gave them as a present at the end of the abstinence period. This is why it is so common to give chocolate eggs to kids in Easter.

Another evolution of this tradition is the painting of eggs. Kids would take real eggs and paint them in the outside with very colorful shapes and images. Then, they can eat them and if you want to take the most profit of it and be 100% sustainable you can even smash the eggshells and place the powder on your plant vases providing the minerals back to the soil.

This is a very fun tradition to follow with your kids these days that they don't have school. It is very nourishing, 100% sustainable and creative.
